How to remember your driving lessons !
I have found through experience that some people who say out ALOUD what they should be doing during their driving lessons remember it easier. For example moving off from the side of the road.
” clutch down, select first gear, set the gas, find the bite, observations from left to right ending in my right blind spot, is it safe, should I indicate, handbrake of if safe , feet still, let car move off, clutch up slowly, move out to 1 meter from the kerb”
If learner drivers say this out loud while practicing in the car they seam to remember it easier.
A study has found that people who are talkers while may feel awkward, their memories may be better than people who think in silence
The could help everyone from pupils revising for exams to people learning to drive.
Strongest results where achieved when addressing someone else (i.e me your driving instructor), followed by talking to yourself. (practice at home)
Professor Victor Boucher of the University of Montreal said: ‘The simple fact of articulating without making a sound creates a sensorimotor link that increases our ability to remember, but if it is related to the functionality of speech, we remember even more.’
